Stephen Hawking is a Fellow of Gonville and Caius. He is a theoretical physicist who researches the basic laws that govern the Universe and has contributed greatly to our understanding of black holes and the Big Bang theory. The formula on the blackboard relates to “the classical behaviour of our universe as a result of its quantum nature” and is from a work in progress with colleagues from around the world. Professor Hawking is probably best known to the wider public as the author of “A Brief History of Time”, and for appearing on television shows like The Simpsons and Star Trek.
