Dr Richard Luckett
Pepys Librarian
Pepys Library, Magdalene College

Richard Luckett is a former University lecturer in English and now cares for the library formed by the 17th century diarist Samuel Pepys (1633 – 1703).

Pepys, who captured in his diary such dramatic events as the Great Fire of London and the Great Plague collected some 3,000 books, an astounding number of volumes for the time. Catalogued by size, there are many rare and important books including the six volumes of his diary. The matching bookcases and the desk were made to Pepys’ specifications, the earliest of them at the Deptford and Woolwich dockyards.
