Professor Sir Partha Dasgupta
Frank Ramsey Professor of Economics
His office, Faculty of Economics
Sir Partha Dasgupta is a Fellow of St John’s College and was knighted in 2002 for services to economics. He has held a number of prominent advisory posts, including membership of the Pontifical Academy of Social Science. His research interests extend from welfare and development economics to population, environmental and resource economics.
There has been an undergraduate degree in economics at Cambridge since 1903, although some would argue that economic research has been going for far longer than that. Demographer and political economist Thomas Malthus was a Fellow of Jesus College from 1766-1834. John Maynard Keynes is probably the most well-known Cambridge economist.
