My brave shoes! I’ve had these shoes for a number of years now, but it wasn’t until I became ill that I realised how significant these shoes were to me. During my treatment for cancer, one of my nurses said “You must be getting some news today”. I said I was and asked her how she knew. She replied “You’re wearing your orange shoes”.
It then became clear to me that over the years, I’d used these shoes as a subconscious support. Every time I was facing something scary, such as speaking in public, going to the dentist or seeing my oncologist, I would put on my ‘brave’ shoes and I still do
