Professor Colin Humphreys
Goldsmiths’ Professor of Materials Science
Room 820, High Resolution Electron Microscope Facility

Colin Humphreys is a Fellow of Selwyn College whose research interests cover a broad spectrum in materials science including gallium nitride materials and devices, high-temperature aerospace materials and advanced electron microscopy.

This room used to contain James Clerk Maxwell’s clock which was supposed to be one of the most accurate in the United Kingdom and was used as the benchmark for experiments using time.
Among many contributions to science, Maxwell postulated the existence of electro-magnetic waves, which is arguably one of the most important contributions to 19th century science. He was the first Cavendish Professor and designed the Cavendish Laboratory.
