In awkward teenage years when the boys called me ‘matchstick legs’ I hid my legs beneath my school skirt and wore thick knee-length socks and flat shoes to make them look stouter. In my thirties I realised, as my dad had mysteriously predicted, that having long slim legs is an advantage. However, it took another decade to get comfortable with drawing attention to them. These shoes are the first that I wore with growing ease and confidence and they catalysed a collection! Now middle aged, I wear high heels most of the time because I really enjoy how they make my legs look and because I can.
