Christine Carey has worked in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy for 17 years and, at the time was the current occupant of the room in which James Watson and Francis Crick worked on discovering the structure of DNA, for which they were awarded the Nobel Prize in 1962.
The Department was founded in 1946 and currently has 23 academic staff, 39 support staff with 249 undergraduate and 120 postgraduate students.
