Mr Bryan Clarke
Senior Assistant Keeper
Prints and Drawing Conservation Studio, The Fitzwilliam Museum

Bryan Clarke trained at the British Museum as a fine art paper conservationist and came to the Fitzwilliam in 1991. One of his main goals is to conserve the original piece of art without leaving any evidence of his own work.

The Fitzwilliam has over 900 Rembrandt etchings. These were mounted by the British Museum using its own technique in the 19th century. The etchings were put in window mounts by pasting them to lining papers. Mr Clarke is working on them to remove the lining papers, carrying out repairs and remounting them.
