Bertie Cole, 36, is the technical director and co-founder of Arcadia Spectacular. He is responsible, with Pip Rush Jansen, for some of the most original and dynamic sound stages in the world. The stages have an international following and have featured at Glastonbury since 2010.

The Spider, Arcadia’s latest and biggest stage to date, is a giant three-legged arachnid that allows 50,000 people to immerse themselves beneath its towering structure. There are dancers on tesla coils firing lightning into the air and duelling with 4 million volts whilst aerialists perform in dazzling costumes suspended from cranes far above the audience. And then there’s the gas and biodiesel flares, which blaze hundreds of feet into the night sky, roaring with light and heat. All to the mixes of some of the world’s most highly respected DJ’s.

Bertie left school at sixteen with a handful of GCSEs and is largely self-taught in the field of engineering but is responsible for all technical aspects of Arcadia’s productions.
