Professor Keith Moffatt
Emeritus Professor of Mathematical Sciences
Fluid Dynamics Laboratory

Keith Moffat is a Fellow of Trinity College. His area of expertise is in theoretical fluid mechanics particularly within magnetic fields. He is seen here with a demonstration of centrifugal instability using golden syrup.
The Centre for Mathematical Studies was completed in 2002 and comprises eight pavilions. Each pavilion is dedicated to a different area of mathematics. Cambridge has a long history in mathematics with the oldest professorship, the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics being established in 1663. Isaac Newton held the chair between 1669 and 1791. Other luminaries include: James Clerk Maxwell, Charles Babbage, George Stokes, Joseph Larmor, Lord Rayleigh, Arthur Eddington and Paul Dirac.
