Backstory

the design story and provenance

The Cider Gum Eucalyptus Scarf was made using a close-up photograph of a tree growing in the the gardens at Magdalene College Cambridge.

This tree comes from Tasmania where the temperate climate is very similar to that of northern Europe making this one of the few eucalypti that survives the harsher norther winters. The Cider Gum Eucalyptus Eucalyptus gunnii can reach about 35m in height and will grow at about 1.5m per year as a young tree. In the wild it rarely surpasses 100 years in age. Traditionally the sap was collected and then fermented into a drink that smells of apple cider – thus the name.
